Details and Mini-Biography

A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Val Carter is well aware of the value of effective, relevant and concise personal and professional development in today’s busy world. With over 20 years’ experience in learning and development both in Canada and overseas, Val knows the issues. Her knowledge is based in the real world.

A sought-after facilitator and speaker, Val works with organizations both large and small in a wide variety of industries. Her relaxed style and collaborative approach encourages learning. She relates the program materials to the participants’ workplace situation and each person leaves with clear “next steps”. These provide a clear understanding of how to put into practice the knowledge they have gained. In 2002, her frustration with uninspiring, generic training programs led Val to found and develop the Success Centre, with a focus on personalized, results-oriented sessions. Success Centre programs engage participants as they explore practical solutions to workplace issues.

  • Event: Resourcing for the Future, The 2009 HR Congress
  • Date: April 7-8, 2009
  • Venue: Deerfoot Inn and Casino, Calgary, Alberta
  • Speaker’s Title: How Am I Doing?
  • Presented By: Agriculture & Food Council
  • Event Speaker Bio: Performance management is widely misunderstood. It is often interpreted as the way to “fix” problem employees. In many organizations it is just a paper exercise. At worst, the old school report style of performance reviews can actually reduce motivation. A successful performance management program is a positive, ongoing approach that assists all employees in fulfilling their potential and growing their skills while contributing to business goals. This approach to performance management has been shown to increase employee engagement, resulting in greater motivation and retention – critical in today’s tight labour market.
