Details and Mini-Biography
Kathryn Burke has a graduate degree in Sociology from the University of Calgary. She is married with two children; her eldest son is a gifted teenager with learning disabilities, ADHD and other health challenges. An active volunteer and education advocate, Kathryn has been honored for volunteer activities with children at risk, including citations from the Government of Canada. She is presently the Executive Director of the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta.
In 2007-08, Kathryn Burke served as the parent representative to the Edmonton Public School Board’s review panel on learning disabilities. In 2007, she co-chaired the first Special Needs Information Fair in Edmonton for parents of children with exceptionalities. Her professional career has included positions of progressive responsibility in the health sector, including roles as the Assistant Vice President of Ambulatory and Community Services at the Royal Alexandra Hospitals, and extensive experience as a consultant in the health, human services and education fields. She has published and presented widely, and is the author of the White Paper from the World Summit on Learning Disabilities.
