Dave Mowat

Updated: November 10, 2009

Details and Mini-Biography

Dave Mowat is a banker, drawn to the business 30 years ago by a keen interest in the financial industry and kept there by his love for getting the customer the best deal.

Over three decades, the Alberta-born, B.C.-educated Mowat has seen all aspects of the banking world: venture capital markets, credit, retail and small business financing, and three chief executive posts. His passion for the industry has taken him to Harvard, where he taught in the International Banking Program, and to the boards of several prominent Canadian organizations, including Visa Canada and the Citizens Bank of Canada.

He was hired in June 2007 as president and CEO of ATB Financial, the largest Alberta-based financial institution and a dynamic presence in all corners of the province for the past 70 years. He leads 4,800 talented and creative ATB associates who share his desire to get Albertans that best deal possible.

Before ATB, Mowat was CEO of VanCity, which under his leadership became renowned for its commitment to corporate social responsibility while growing its assets, profitability and membership to record levels. Mowat brings back to his home province an excitement about the possibilities that exist in Alberta and in its most venerable financial institution.
