0521 – Unclear Skill Requirements
Updated: June 30, 2009
Internal Weakness
Do your employees know what they need to know to do their jobs? As elementary as it sounds, while employees usually know that they need to “get the job done” it isn’t always as clear how to do it. This can be simply a matter of poor internal training, but can also be the result of poorly documented processes, vague job descriptions, or an indiscriminate “jack-of-all-trades” mentality that leaves employers assuming that everyone should be able to do a bit everything. Not only can this be a source of frustration for employees, but it leaves the door open to a whole host of health, safety and worker retention issues.

Insights classified as “internal” are those deemed to be controlled directly by the policy or action of the company or management.
