0244 – Underperforming Employees
Updated: July 24, 2009
An Internal Threat Relating to Placement
The first rule of firing an employee is to do such a great job of hiring so you never have to fire, says Angela Santiago of The Little Potato Company. Use good recruitment and a careful interview process that allows you to evaluate a candidate as the best way to avoid firing, but despite precautions, employees sometimes still underperform.
Before firing, consider your methods. Have you given the employee everything required in training to allow them to do their job properly? Have you give them feedback so they know they aren’t meeting your expectations? Have you given them all the tools they need to succeed? If so, it’s time to let the employee go.
